The perception of individuals with ADHD as “absent-minded geniuses” or “creatives under pressure” trivialises their struggles and detracts from the need for comprehensive support.

The Role of Parents and Teachers

Early and consistent support from parents and teachers is essential for children with ADHD to overcome social barriers. Gregor stresses the importance of involving educators in the diagnostic process and implementing adaptive strategies in the classroom. Empathetic teachers who are willing to collaborate can make a significant difference in a child’s daily experiences, mediating conflicts and fostering an inclusive environment.

Parents also play a vital role by helping their children understand how others perceive their behaviour. This does not mean blaming the child but teaching them to recognise the impact of their actions and appreciate their strengths, such as creativity, empathy, or humour.

A Future of Inclusion and Understanding
